Cecil’s President Pannill testifies at U.S. Capitol 06-11-09

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Cecil College President Dr. W. Stephen Pannill recently participated in a Maryland Association of Community Colleges presentation for the Maryland Congressional Delegation at the U.S. Capitol.
Invited by U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, dean of the Maryland Congressional Delegation, the purpose of the meeting, chaired by U.S. Sen. Benjamin Cardin, was to discuss MACC’s legislative priorities for the 111th Congress and how the delegation can be of help. The delegation was also interested in hearing an update on Maryland’s community colleges and about their workforce training initiatives during these difficult economic times.
Pannill was one of three college presidents selected to provide testimony and answer questions as he addressed BRAC-related initiatives and activities. He was joined by Donna Horgan, who took part in the meeting as a representative of Cecil College’s board of trustees, and Chris Ann Szep, Cecil College vice president of institutional advancement and government relations.
Testimony was also offered by Baltimore City Community College President Dr. Carolane Williams, on workforce development, and Howard Community College President Dr. Kate Hetherington, on federal priorities. In addition to the trustees, presidents and government relations officers, the Maryland Association of Community Colleges was represented by Clay Whitlow, executive director, and Jody Kallis, legislative liaison.
