January/February 2011

Dear Mr. Belote,

I would like to contact Reg Martin whose letter was in your July/August issue of CSM. Are you permitted to give me his address? If not, could you send my address to him?

Three years ago I sold my house in Rising Sun and moved to a retirement community in Allentown to be near my daughter and her family.

At 93+ years, I’ve outlived all of my family except nieces and nephews in Rising Sun area.
I look forward to the CSM and greatly enjoy it.

Thanks,
Louise Jenkins

Dear CSM,

Great job on the Rising Sun 150th Celebration Book! From the beautiful cover, the great articles about the town and its people, to the many photographs both past and present, this book covered it all!

To the Editor,

I received the back issues of Cecil Soil yesterday and have read thru two of them already. Matter of fact I saw Harry Barnes in both mags and remembered something that happened back when we were young. Harry and I were walking down North Street toward Main when we passed the old news stand building where his dad had his law office. Well Harry had his shirt tail outside of his pants. His father saw him and came out and made him put it inside. That was back in the fifties. They sure have a different dress code now. I forgot to mention I put mine inside too and still do. I don’t know what made me think of that after all these years. I guess its something that the Cecil Soil brings out of you. Again, thank you.

Keep the press rolling.

P.S. I don’t know if I said this in my first letter to you, but the Armstrong and Reed families go back a long ways in Cecil County.

Jane WassmerDear Ed and Carol,

We want to thank you for doing a great job on the Rising Sun 150th book. It is a blessing to have such a nice history put together so well. Please thank all your talented staff for all the hard work they have done. Thank you for including our little green Rambler and the chapel poem and picture. We know you will continue to help us remember all the love and devotion it takes to make a Happy Town.

May God Bless you all,
Walt and Jane Wassmer

Dear Carol,

Just came back to work today. Am not completely better about 70%. The last 30% is going to be tough. But enough of me complaining about my health. How are you and Ed doing? Bet he is happy that the 150th book is complete. I got a copy and it is beautifully done. Tell him he did a tremendous job. Oh by the way, here is the January & February 2011 events calendar for you. Have a blessed Christmas and Joyous New Year.

Linda MenkinsDear Ed and Carol,

I just wanted to say what a great job you two did on the 150th Anniverary Book. I know you put a lot of hours into it and it shows in the quality of the book. It will be a great keepsake.
Also, thanks for putting up with me and for publishing my articles. Thanks to you, it has been a great year for me in writing.

Dear Linda,
“Put up with you?” Please don’t ever think that, Linda. We enjoy your gentle stories and your fine photographs and are very proud to publish them. I just wish I had more “County Voices” like yours to share with our people. Keep them coming and thank you very much for your participation. —Publisher, Ed Belote

Dear Cecil Soil,

Love your magazine. Keep up the good work. I’m ordering two gift subscriptions and one for myself. Thank you so much for the gift.

To the Editor of Cecil Soil:

In the November/December issue there was a poem, “A Salute to our Veterans,” that was written by Donna M. Johnson. I am going to cut it out and put it in our family Bible to be kept safe. The fourth verse got my attention the most, although all of it is great. Myself and two brothers served in the army and marines during the Korean War.

My two brothers were in Korea and both were wounded. I was unable to go to Korea because my two brothers were there. I served with the 82nd Airborne. Donna was right when she used the words “spit upon.” The veterans that came back from Korea and Vietnam were treated that way thanks to the many papers and reporters.

Thank you, Donna Johnson, for such a wonderful poem.
