Winter 2006-07

Dear CSM,
The enclosed picture was taken in 1914 at Woodlawn, between Port Deposit and Rising Sun.
The gentleman on the left, with the white beard is Cornelius Abrahams, owner of the general store. With him is my grandfather, Edward Howard Jackson, who had a farm nearby.
The general store was destroyed in the 1950's by a jet plane that crashed into it. The pilot bailed out and was safe. I hope this is of interest to your Cecil Soil Scrapbook pages.
Sincerely
Anne J. Bradford
Aberdeen, MD

Vincent LaMonica from Elkton, poses with his sister, Josephine LaMonica Ward in this circa. 1925 photo. It is interesting to note that little Vince is attired in a children's Navy uniform, because less than 20 years later he joined the U.S. Navy to fight for our country in World War II.

It was July 1976, and out on the street, Elkton's Keystone Cops are patrolling for unruly types and they have caught a suspect. He'll soon appear before Judge Boulden, but right now they are escorting Elkton firefighter Bob Mckinney to the judge. Also in the photo from left to right is an actual part-time Elkton Patrolman, Hall (next is unidentified) and in uniform Ed Moran, their prisoner, Wayne Wrenshaw, and Walter Lee. All five are members of the fire company.

As contains celebrated the bicentennial in 1976, family events involving fun and history took place around Cecil. In an event on Elkton's Main Street, the case was stacked against Elkton Town Administrator, Dick Reed, as Judge Mitchell Boulden presided over this Kangaroo Court and Elkton Police Officer Joseph Zurlo administered the fine, a cream pie in the face, for the lawbreaker.

Robert Donnell Brown II proudly shows off his 4 month old granddaughter, Virginia Allison (Powell) at his Elkton, MD home in 1921. Virginia, from Elkton, now 85 years old reports, "He was so proud of me because I was his first grandchild. My Grandfather was a perfect gentleman and I loved him so much that I named my only son after him."
